18 DECEMBER 2019 – Coldplay’s latest album, Everyday Life, the video of Toy Story 4 and videogame FIFA 20 top UK wishlists for Christmas this year, according to data from the Entertainment Retailers Association’s (ERA) quarterly consumer survey.
But preferences vary significantly by age, with the under-25s opting for Lewis Capaldi in music and Toy Story 4 in video, while the over-55s choose Rod Stewart and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and David Attenborough’s Seven Worlds, One Planet.
The research is based on responses from 1,870 people who have been polled on a quarterly basis for the past six years to create the most authoritative picture of UK consumption of entertainment.
ERA CEO Kim Bayley said, “With just a week to go to the big day, this research gives a fascinating insight into the music, video and games UK entertainment fans most want this Christmas.”

Among the other findings from the report:
- Thinking about Christmas gifts the panelists might receive, CDs beat DVDs / Blu-rays, Games and Vinyl to top the list
- Of the 10 albums suggested as possible gifts, nearly half of the panel selected at least one they would like to receive
- Coldplay topped the list overall, with Robbie Williams coming next
- Rod Stewart is the most popular choice amongst the Over-55s
- Of the 10 videos suggested as possible gifts, nearly of the panel selected at least one they would like to receive
- Toy Story 4 topped the videos list overall
- The only deviation from Toy Story 4 as most wanted came amongst the Over-55s where Attenborough's Seven Worlds, One Planet topped the list.
- Of the 10 games suggested as possible gifts, one quarter of the panel selected at least one they would like to receive
- FIFA 20 topped the list overall, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare the most popular choice amongst the Under-25s and 24-34s while females preferred Luigi's Mansion 3 on Nintendo.
